Forgiveness
A simple sorry does not make up an apology,
And an ‘it’s okay’ does not mean you’ve reconciled.
Holding your ears when you don’t mean it,
Is never a reason valid enough for forgiveness.
You may have realised your mistake,
And sought to make amends,
But you would never know what the other person is thinking,
Or whether they want to be friends, once again.
Even if there’s an effort,
From every person involved in the story,
To try and climb to the way things used to be,
There’ll always be a boulder waiting for you, at the end of the storey.
It is never easy to forgive someone;
To forgive and to forget.
You only have the internal power,
To give them a second chance, and then maybe a third.
And you’ll probably still hold grudges,
Bring up the past over and over again.
And that is it, my dear friend,
There’s always limitations to the power of forgiveness!

भूल कर सभी शिकवे गिले, आओ गले मिलें,
मिट जाएँगे ये सारे फासले, आओ गले मिलें।
कब तलक रूठे रहोगे? मुझसे बात न करोगे?
कितना बचोगे मुझसे तुम मुलाक़ात न करोगे?
अच्छा माफ़ कर दो मुझे चाहो तो सज़ा दे दो,
बोलो कुछ कि ये लब हिले, आओ गले मिलें।
कि इंसाँ हूँ तो लाज़मी है भूल कोई हो जाना,
महसूस भी करा देता आँखें तेरा भिगो जाना,
रो रहा दिल ज़ार-ज़ार, तेरी उदासी देख कर,
मुस्कुराओ तो सुकून मिले, आओ गले मिलें।
तुम्हारा हँसना-बोलना ही काफी है मेरे लिए,
बोलो ना क्या तुम्हारे पास माफ़ी है मेरे लिए?
है अगर तो दे दो ‘राही’, झोली ये रही सामने,
आह! देखो अश्क बह चले, आओ गले मिलें।
भूल कर सभी शिकवे गिले, आओ गले मिलें,
मिट जाएँगे ये सारे फासले, आओ गले मिलें।
